FBI Director Kash Patel is engaged to Alexis Wilkins, his girlfriend of several years and a country singer with ties to conservative political circles, the couple announced Sunday evening in a post on X.
Wilkins, 27, shared a black-and-white photo of herself standing beside Patel, 46, holding her hand up toward the camera to display her engagement ring. Her caption read, “Went and got the law involved.” Patel reshared the post on his own account.
The announcement, first reported by the Associated Press, caps a relationship that predates Patel’s tenure at the helm of the bureau. The two were together before he assumed leadership of the FBI in 2025, and Wilkins was on hand for his swearing-in ceremony.
A public profile that predates the FBI post
Wilkins has built a following that blends music with political commentary. She released her debut album in 2023 and has been affiliated with a range of conservative organizations. On her website, she describes her approach to songwriting as one that “honors country tradition while adding relevance and current commentary.”
She has also appeared as an influencer for PragerU, a conservative media organization, and has weighed in on political controversies from the right. In one widely circulated clip, she argued that the left was attempting to shift blame for violent political rhetoric toward then-candidate Donald Trump.
Her public engagements have put her in proximity to some of the most visible conservative political events of the past year. She performed the national anthem at a pro wrestling event in State College, Pennsylvania — an appearance that drew attention less for the performance itself than for how Patel got there.
Travel scrutiny follows Patel to the engagement news
Patel has faced sustained criticism over his use of government aircraft for trips without any known or apparent law enforcement purpose. Among the trips cited by critics was a flight aboard an FBI jet to State College for the wrestling event where Wilkins sang.
After that event, photos Wilkins shared on social media showed the couple smiling together, with her holding an oversized golden championship belt.
The travel questions have trailed Patel through much of his tenure, surfacing repeatedly in congressional oversight hearings and in press coverage of his schedule. That the announcement of his engagement arrived alongside renewed mentions of the jet travel suggests the two storylines are likely to remain entangled in public discussion of the director.
Wilkins, meanwhile, has performed at another high-profile government-adjacent event: President Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair on the National Mall, part of the America 250 programming. Her participation came as other artists withdrew from the event after concluding it was not a non-partisan celebration.
The engagement post drew immediate attention across social media, with reaction splitting along familiar political lines. Supporters of the director offered congratulations, while critics used the occasion to revisit the travel questions and the broader debate over the mixing of Patel’s official role with his personal and political life.
Neither Patel nor Wilkins has offered additional comment beyond the initial X post. No wedding date has been announced.
The couple has not addressed the travel criticism in connection with the engagement, and the announcement itself contained no reference to Patel’s work at the bureau. For now, the post — a single black-and-white photograph and a seven-word caption — stands as the only public statement on the matter from either of them.
