A Republican-aligned super PAC in Texas is bringing back a familiar playbook from the 2024 presidential race â and aiming it at a Democratic Senate candidate. Texas PAC is spending roughly $51.3 million on advertising to support Attorney General Ken Paxton, according to The Dallas Express, and one of the spots set to run against Democratic hopeful James Talarico is a repurposed version of an ad President Donald Trump used effectively against former Vice President Kamala Harris.
The original ad focused on Democratic support for transgender-identifying individuals, often at the expense of biological women. The new version opens with a direct attack: âRadical liberal James Talarico is for âthey/them,â not you.â

A Familiar Script, A New Target
The spot then asks, âWhat do we really know about James Talarico?â and quotes the candidate saying, âDefending trans Texans is something we have to do every day.â It goes on to claim that Talarico âsupported using taxpayer dollars for sex change surgeries on young children and even said denying your childâs gender identity is abusive.â The ad concludes with the tagline âRadical liberal James Talarico, for they, them, not you,â followed by the required disclaimer that Texas PAC is responsible for its content.
The adâs release signals that Republicans intend to make transgender issues a central line of attack in the Texas Senate race â just as they did nationally in 2024. The reworked spot is part of a broader, well-funded effort to bolster Paxton, who is running for re-election as attorney general while also eyeing higher office.

Talarico Tries to Clarify Past Remarks
Talarico has recently attempted to moderate some of his previous statements. In a Fox News interview, he walked back a claim that there are six genders.
âWhat I meant is there are two sexes and thereâs a small percentage of people with genetic abnormalities. Obviously I didnât say it correctly. There are not six sexes, there are two,â he said.

During the same interview, he sought to downplay Democratic efforts to allow transgender-identifying males to compete on female sports teams. âI oppose trans athletes playing in girlsâ sports if it risks safety or fairness,â he said, though he did not specify what criteria he would use to measure safety or fairness.
Talarico also responded to Paxton, who had highlighted the Democratâs past statement that God is ânon-binary.â Talarico accused Paxton of using his old âcringey commentsâ to distract from scrutiny of his own record. He said the God remark was meant to be âprovocativeâ and that he was making a point about God not fitting into any particular box.
Paxtonâs Ad Blitz
The $51.3 million ad buy is a significant sum, even in a state as large and expensive as Texas. It underscores how seriously Republicans are taking the Senate race and how aggressively they plan to define Talarico early. The Dallas Express reported on the ad purchases on Saturday.
Texas PAC is a super PAC aligned with Republicans, and its spending is likely to be supplemented by other outside groups as the campaign intensifies. The race is expected to draw national attention, particularly if Talarico continues to gain traction in Democratic circles.
For now, the revival of the Trump ad serves as a reminder that the political battles that defined 2024 are far from over â and that in Texas, they are being refought with new characters and the same sharp-edged messaging.
