A 43-year-old Honduran national who was in the United States illegally is accused of stabbing a co-worker to death at a dairy facility in western Kansas, according to authorities.
Erlin Y. Lagos-Gonzales was arrested by the Finney County Sheriffâs Office and charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with the Aug. 31 death of 32-year-old Adonis Edgardo Aguilar-Juarez at a dairy facility in Kearny County, Kansas, according to Breitbart News.
The incident occurred in Garden City, a city that straddles Finney and Kearny counties in the southwestern part of the state, an area with a significant agricultural workforce.
Prior Deportation Order
Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach said that Lagos-Gonzales had been issued a final deportation order on July 24, 2025, after he failed to appear for an immigration hearing. Kobach, a Republican known for his hard-line stance on illegal immigration, said the killing was preventable.
âThis killing never should have happened,â Kobach said in a statement. âErlin Lagos-Gonzales is an illegal alien who received a final order of removal more than a year ago. He should have left the United States then. Instead, he remained in Kansas, continued working, and now stands charged with taking the life of another man.â
Kobach added that there are more than 1.5 million such âalien fugitivesâ in the United States, and called for stronger collaboration between law-enforcement agencies and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to locate and remove individuals with outstanding deportation orders.

Lagos-Gonzales remains in custody at the Finney County Jail on a $500,000 bond. His first court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, according to reports.
The Kearny County Sheriffâs Office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) are handling the investigation.
