Paul Rudd, Hillary Clinton, Lin-Manuel Miranda to Host Karaoke Fundraiser for Progressive Voter Groups

Paul Rudd and Lin-Manuel Miranda are joining Hillary Clinton for a karaoke-themed fundraiser in New York City, according to a report from the Kansas City Star. The event, planned ahead of the November midterm elections, will raise money for two progressive voter mobilization groups: Latino Victory Project and Onward Together.

The evening is expected to feature additional celebrity guests, though the full lineup has not been announced. A sweepstakes contest run through ActBlue will give fans a chance to win airfare, hotel accommodations, tickets to the event, and a meet-and-greet with Miranda and Clinton.

The Beneficiary Groups

Latino Victory Project, co-founded by actress Eva Longoria, describes its mission as increasing Latino representation in government. The organization lists unionism, immigration reform, education, and environmentalism among its core values. It runs a candidate training program in partnership with the Democratic Party and has worked closely with the Biden administration during past election cycles, as well as maintaining ties to Kamala Harris and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Billionaire George Soros has been one of its most significant ongoing donors.

Onward Together was launched by Hillary Clinton after her 2016 loss to Donald Trump. Clinton co-founded the group with Howard Dean, another losing Democratic presidential candidate. Its stated purpose is to support progressive leaders and organizations, offering strategy, training, and fundraising assistance. A 2017 investigation found that many of the candidates and groups that received donations from Onward Together already had established connections to the Clintons, rather than being newly emerging figures.

Both groups are linked to ActBlue, the Democratic fundraising platform that is currently under investigation for allegedly funneling millions in dark money donations through fake accounts. According to the investigation, those accounts were supposedly associated with elderly individuals, many of whom were unaware that their names were being used in the donation schemes.

The fundraiser highlights the ongoing efforts by Democratic-aligned organizations to boost voter registration and turnout ahead of the November 3 elections. The involvement of high-profile celebrities and political figures underscores the importance both parties are placing on midterm mobilization.
