Texas Woman Accused of Taking Child to Alleged Pedophile Doctor 10 Times for Adderall

Alicia Evonne Sanchez, 37, allegedly brought a child under 14 to Dr. Kenneth Donald Haygood's Tyler practice for repeated sexual assaults in exchange for prescription stimulants, authorities say. She faces up to 99 years to life; Haygood is serving eight years after a plea deal.

Texas Woman Accused of Taking Child to Alleged Pedophile Doctor 10 Times for Adderall

A 37-year-old Texas woman has been arrested and charged with continuously sexually assaulting a child by allegedly delivering the victim to a physician’s office for repeated abuse in exchange for prescription medication, Smith County authorities said this week.

Alicia Evonne Sanchez, also known as Alicia Evonne Seguin, was taken into custody Wednesday by Smith County Sheriff’s deputies. According to KLTV, investigators accuse her of bringing a child described only as “under the age of 14” to the Tyler practice of Dr. Kenneth Donald Haygood, 56, where the child was sexually assaulted.

The arrest affidavit alleges Sanchez transported the child to the physician at least ten times and remained in the room while the assaults occurred. During those encounters, the child would cry and plead with Haygood to stop, but was told, “This is what doctors do,” the outlet reported.

Alleged Exchange for Prescription Drugs

In return for bringing the child, authorities say Haygood supplied Sanchez with Adderall, a prescription stimulant used primarily to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The pills were then placed in a clear plastic baggie and the woman allegedly told the youngster the medication was “for people who couldn’t get them from their doctor.”

Investigators have not disclosed the nature of Sanchez’s relationship to the child or the victim’s gender, citing the ongoing investigation and the need to protect the minor’s identity.

Sanchez is currently being held at the Smith County Jail on a $3 million bond, a figure that underscores the severity with which local authorities view the allegations.

Potential Sentence Far Exceeds Doctor’s Punishment

If convicted of continuous sexual assault of a child under 14 — a first-degree felony under Texas law — Sanchez could face a minimum of 25 years and up to 99 years or life in prison, according to news reports. That potential penalty stands in stark contrast to the sentence handed down to Haygood, who is currently serving eight years behind bars for sex crimes after striking a plea agreement last September.

Under the terms of that deal, Haygood pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting two female patients. Additional felony charges, including the sexual assault of a child, were dropped as part of the negotiation, resulting in a substantially lighter sentence than he might have otherwise received.

Assistant District Attorney Richard Vance acknowledged at the time that Haygood “probably deserved more” than eight years but defended the agreement as a way to spare his victims from having to take the witness stand and publicly recount “details nobody would ever want to talk about.”

The disparity between the two defendants’ legal exposure has drawn attention since Sanchez’s arrest. She is not accused of personally carrying out any sexual act; rather, she is charged as an alleged facilitator who knowingly delivered a child to an abuser on multiple occasions.

Investigation Remains Active

Smith County officials have not said whether additional charges are expected against anyone else. The case remains under investigation, and the sheriff’s office has declined to release further details about how the alleged arrangement was discovered or how long it had been going on before Sanchez’s arrest this week.

Online jail records list Sanchez under both her current name and her prior name, Seguin. It was not immediately clear whether she has retained an attorney or entered a plea. In Texas, continuous sexual assault of a child under 14 is one of the most serious offenses in the penal code, requiring evidence of two or more acts over a period of 30 or more days — a threshold that prosecutors say the repeated visits to Haygood’s office would meet.

Haygood’s medical practice in Tyler, a city of roughly 110,000 in northeast Texas about 90 miles east of Dallas, has since been shuttered. State medical regulators have not commented on his license status.

The case has revived scrutiny of how the legal system handled Haygood’s original prosecution, particularly the decision to drop the child sexual assault charge as part of his plea bargain. Vance’s office at the time characterized the agreement as an imperfect but necessary resolution that guaranteed a conviction and a prison sentence while sparing multiple victims from the trauma of a public trial.

For now, Sanchez remains in custody, and the Smith County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing. No trial date has been set.
