One year after President Donald Trump deployed a federal law enforcement surge into Memphis, Tennessee, the administration is pointing to sharply falling violent crime numbers as evidence the crackdown is working in a city long burdened by high homicide rates.
According to data the U.S. Marshals Service shared with The Daily Wire, since the launch of the Trump Memphis Safe Task Force on September 29, 2025, murders in the city have dropped 37%, sexual assaults by 30%, robbery by 47%, and aggravated assault by 29%.
The task force has made 13,140 arrests over the same period, the data shows, including 135 murder arrests, 1,406 drug-related arrests, 1,303 gun offense arrests, and 125 sex offense arrests. Among those taken into custody were 1,461 known gang members and 421 juveniles, according to the White House. The operation also seized 2,201 firearms and located 189 missing children.
A White House Victory Lap
White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis framed the results as a direct rebuke of local governance, telling The Daily Wire that the task force had driven down violent crime “in a city that was failed by extreme Democrats’ soft-on-crime policies.”

“The Task Force has made more than 13,000 arrests including murderers, sex offenders, drug traffickers, and other violent criminals and has seized more than 2,200 illegal firearms,” Bis said. “President Trump restored law and order and made Memphis safe again.”
Attorney General Todd Blanche echoed that message, describing the effort as a coordinated federal-state push that had shifted the balance of power in the city.
“The Memphis Safe Task Force has brought Memphis back to life,” Blanche told The Daily Wire. “In just one year, this coordinated effort has taken the keys to Memphis away from violent criminals and put them back in the hands of the law-abiding citizens who call this city home. Thanks to President Trump, Memphis is on its way to becoming the safest city in America.”
The administration has credited close cooperation with state officials, including Republican Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee National Guard, for the operation’s reach. Polls cited in the reporting have shown the law enforcement surge enjoys broad support among Tennesseans.

Notable Cases and the D.C. Precedent
In a press release marking the one-year anniversary of the crackdown, the Marshals Service highlighted several notable arrests. They include China White, a 25-year-old gang member charged in connection with two murders committed in July 2020, and Alex Rodriguez, a 52-year-old Honduran migrant in the country illegally, arrested on charges of child rape and aggravated sexual battery.
The Memphis operation followed a similar federal surge in Washington, D.C., which the administration says produced more than 16,000 arrests, including 35 murder suspects. U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces Serralta said the D.C. effort served as the template.
“The DC Safe Task Force showed immediate success when it started. President Trump saw that success from the USMS and our partners and told us to go do the exact same thing in the great city of Memphis,” Serralta said, adding, “We have been even more successful in Memphis.”
What the Numbers Mean — and What They Don’t
The figures released this week represent the administration’s most detailed accounting yet of the Memphis task force’s first year. The declines in murder, sexual assault, robbery, and aggravated assault are drawn from Marshals Service data shared with The Daily Wire and cover the period since the task force began operations.

The raw arrest totals — 13,140 overall, with 1,461 alleged gang members and 421 juveniles among them — illustrate both the scale of the enforcement effort and the profile of those swept up in it. The seizure of 2,201 firearms and the recovery of 189 missing children point to the breadth of the operation’s mandate, which administration officials have framed as a holistic intervention rather than a narrow anti-violence push.
Whether the one-year snapshot translates into a durable reversal in Memphis’s long-term crime trends remains an open question. The city has for years ranked among the nation’s most dangerous on a per-capita basis, and a single year of declines — however steep — does not on its own establish a permanent shift. The data released by the Marshals Service tracks the task force’s operational period, meaning it captures conditions during an unusually intense federal presence rather than a normal baseline.
Still, the direction of travel is unambiguous in the numbers the administration is touting, and the political implications extend beyond Memphis. The task force has become a centerpiece of Trump’s broader law-and-order agenda, a model the White House has already exported to the nation’s capital and signaled it could replicate elsewhere.
The administration’s allies argue the results validate a muscular federal role in local public safety — a posture that has drawn praise from state officials in Tennessee and scrutiny from critics who question the scale of federal intervention in a city government led by Democrats. For now, the Marshals Service data gives the White House a concrete set of statistics to point to as it makes that case.
One year in, the Memphis Safe Task Force has produced a body of results the administration describes as transformative. The next phase will test whether those results hold as the federal footprint evolves — and whether Memphis’s declines continue without the same intensity of federal enforcement behind them.
